Reedy Creek After School ESL Mentor

Conduct:

  • Mentors are to conduct themselves in a respectable, appropriate manner at all times.
  • Mentors will portray a positive role model for children by maintaining an attitude of respect, loyalty, patience, courtesy, tact and maturity.
  • Mentors must be on the bus by 3:25 to leave for RCE and by 5:10 to leave for CA. If you know that you will be absent, I will EXPECT an email.
  • Mentors are to refrain from PDA (public display of affection) towards other mentors.
  • Mentors are to refrain from the use of profanity, inappropriate jokes, sarcasm, violence or harassment in the presence of children.
  • Any form of child abuse would result in immediate ejection from the program.
  • All mentor volunteers must register with Wake County Schools.

Discipline:

  • Remember that you are not another child! You are a role model responsible for helping a little person. Use positive methods to guide children rather than criticism.

Supervision:

  • Children must be supervised at all times.
  • Restroom supervision: Whatever the teachers at RCE think is appropriate.

What: Tutoring and mentoring K-5th grade ESL students.  Training will be provided.

Where: Reedy Creek Elementary

When: Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:25 – 5:00, starting late September. You may choose one or both days.  Or a trimester if you have a sports conflict.  This could be expanded to other times, depending on student interest and availability.

Who: 30 students for each day (14 may ride the CA bus - others may drive themselves).

How: We will take a CA van over each day and students may drive themselves.

Why: Because helping kids is one of the best things to do.

What you need to do: Fill out an application, give it to Ms. Cotter (U107) and be prepared for training and other pre-mentoring meetings.
