The Cary Academy Debate Team is building a foundation, now
in its 2nd year.
Debate encompasses speech, dramatic interpretation, and
one-on-one debate. Students who participate in debate acquire
important skills that help them succeed in college and in
careers that value clear communication. John F. Kennedy said
that "the give and take of debating, the testing of
ideas, is essential to democracy," and students who
participate in Debate may become leaders in such diverse
fields as law, news casting, and business management. Debating
builds confidence in speaking in front of audiences as well as
in interpersonal communications. We offer participation in
most of the debate categories: Original Oratory,
Extemporaneous Speaking, Literary Interpretation, Student
Congress, and Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
