Programming Your Telephone

Abbreviated Dialing

Abbreviated Dialing provides lists of stored numbers that can be accessed to place local, long distance, and international calls, to activate features, or to access remote computer equipment.

To use abbreviated dialing, a user accesses the appropriate list through a dial access code and then dials the one-, two-, or three-digit list entry number where the desired calling number is stored. Frequently called numbers can be stored on an abbreviated dialing button. In this case, simply pressing the button places the call.

Autodial is similiar to abbreviated dialing. Autodial buttons, when pushed, dial a number or sequence of numbers. Autodial buttons can be programmed to represent functions such as redial or simple numbers such as your home telephone number.

The # sign has been reserved by the system. When the system encounters a "#" entered in this way, it interprets that to mean "I'm finished programming" and stops accepting data. This means that individuals programming phones using the phone buttons can not enter this symbol as part of a longer string of data. Please note: In the following explanations, the abbreviation "AD" is used when referring to "Abbreviated Dial"; "AD" is not used when referring to "Autodial".

Programming Buttons

  • The program menu feature allows you to program telephone numbers, extensions, or feature access codes.
  • The pause menu feature places a 1.5 second pause between an access code and a menu feature. This is useful if you are dialing a system which uses a menu with prompts.
  • The wait menu feature instructs the voice terminal to delay 5 to 25 seconds until the voice terminal receives a dial tone from the switch. You may use the wait feature to instruct the system to dial 9, wait for a dialtone and then dial a outside number.

Placing a Menu AD Call

  • Pick up the handset or press Speaker.
  • Press the menu button.
  • Select an AD button.
  • Your call will be dialed.

  7. Repeat steps 1 through 5 to program additional buttons.
  8. Hangup.
