File restoration policy
Requests for restoring files can be sent by e-mail to the Help Desk or your can leave
us voice mail. Students must get the approval of a class teacher before submitting a
request. We need the following information to restore a file:
- The name of the file or folder to be restored.
- The location.
- The last time you "touched" the file.
- When you created the file (the approx. date is fine).
Restores will go faster if you can provide us with all the information about the
missing item. Note: Backups are done every night. If you create a file in the morning
and cannot find it that afternoon, the file cannot be restored since it hasnt gone
through a backup.
The actual restore process is a very long, arduous task as we have to
sit by the server to switch tapes or we have to get tapes from our
offsite location – in essence, we have to drop everything else to do a
restore.
- All requests for restores must be made with the class teachers approval. The class
teacher will determine whether the information can be re-created in a short period of
time.
- Requests to restore favorites will not be processed since it takes anywhere from 6
8 hours to do this type of restore. It would be a lot faster for you to re-do your
favorites than for us to restore it.
- Data that can be re-created in an hour or less will not be restored.
- Restore requests will be processed within 2 4 days.
- A backup of the daily backups is done every Monday. Therefore, no restores will be done
on that day.
- Lost or deleted e-mail will not be restored.
