School Closing Announcements
Back to School
Information Home
Should we
decide to close school early or cancel after-school
activities, an announcement will be posted on our News and
Information Hotline (677-8994), the main phone number and on the intranet as soon as the
decision is made. We also alert local media with delay
information as soon as we make our decision, but we have no
control over how quickly they post this information.
In an effort to
minimize the interruption to student learning that occurs
when school is cancelled due to inclement weather, as well
as to avoid making up missed days, Cary Academy faculty will
post class assignments on the intranet homework page or
their website by noon of the day when school is closed.
Students will be expected to check the intranet and complete
these assignments. Faculty will check their email
periodically and respond to student questions. Students
unable to access the web should call a friend to get
assignments. We strongly advise students to take all
textbooks home on evenings where snow or freezing rain or a
hurricane is in the forecast.
We also recognize that on-line learning
cannot adequately replace the value of classroom
teacher-student interaction. Therefore, when three or more
consecutive school days are missed, the school’s Leadership
Team will determine how many missed days will be made-up.
One day each trimester on our school calendar will be
designated as a make-up day in the event one is needed. This
will alert the community to the possibility of a specific
make-up day well in advance. The school also reserves the
right to hold classes on Saturday under extremely unusual
circumstances.
We realize that CA students come from all over the
Triangle and beyond and consequently weather conditions
often differ depending on where families live. Therefore,
the decision on weather to drive your students or for your
student to drive to school always remains with parents. We
respect parents’ decisions.
Students who are late or absent as a result of an
inclement weather situation will be given an excused tardy
or absence, and teachers will work with students to cover
missed material or make up assignments.
