Dear Parents:
I hope your families had a restful and
happy holiday season! The Berger family enjoyed a few calm
days in Cary followed by a
few frantic days visiting family in New York City. There was
fun and good food throughout, and for me, a bit too much of
the latter.
Just a few weeks ago we announced a new
scholarship at Cary Academy: the Stephanie Bauman Leadership
and Character Scholarship. The scholarship was made possible
by a generous gift from Dr. Jay Bauman in honor of his
daughter Stephanie, class of 2007; it will
help 8th grade Cary Academy
families with demonstrated financial need to more easily
afford the 9th grade.
We are thrilled
with Dr. Bauman’s gift for a number of reasons. Most
important, this is Cary Academy’s first sustaining gift from
a parent or alum that either responds to a school need or
assures that one of our outstanding programs continues far
into the future. Improving retention of our students from 8th
to 9th grade continues to be an important school
goal and the Stephanie Bauman scholarship will help. In
addition, the gift will recognize and reward the values we
seek to develop in our students and provide a lasting memory
of a CA student who contributed so much to our school.
Finally, we hope Dr. Bauman’s gift will encourage other
parents and alums to consider strengthening our school by
making a gift to Cary
Academy in an area they wish to support.
If you or your family would like further information
about ways to contribute to our school, please contact
Lynne Fountain,
Director of Advancement, or me.
On the evening of
January 22 I will present at the PTAA meeting my annual
State of the School
talk. In addition to presenting data comparing Cary Academy
to our peer schools in North Carolina, and statistics
looking at CA student performance over the past few years, I
will have two new items in this year’s address: next year’s
tuition increase with an explanation of how we reached that
figure and my vision for our school in its second decade.
I hope you can attend this meeting
as I am particularly
interested in your reaction to these two new items.
Wishing you a
very Happy New Year!
