Periods:
All math and science classes, as well as language arts and social studies classes, are scheduled back-to-back. This allows the faculty opportunity to structure the two 45-minute periods in various ways to maximize the 90 available minutes for interdisciplinary teaching. Curriculum is planned and taught so that students make connections between the subject areas. Teachers also have the flexibility to plan extended classes for students to delve into research and projects. For example, the teachers may decide that on one day science will be taught for 90 minutes but no math will be covered. The next day the schedule might be reversed.

Faculty members work in grade-level interdisciplinary teams to coordinate the instructional program. Members of the team teach the same students and thus develop a comprehensive and unified perspective of individual student and grade level needs.

The Middle School foreign language, physical education, arts, and enrichment classes meet daily for 45 minutes, illustrating Cary Academy's strong commitment to the development of the whole child.

Enrichment:
This class is designed to further "enrich" a student's academic and social growth at Cary Academy. Students first report to their advisor's room, then, depending on the day, have opportunities to meet with the advisor, work in the media center (library, computer lab, foreign language resource lab), attend grade-level assemblies and meetings, or work on projects and assignments, or participate in structured activities.

Faculty members advise 10-12 students. Advisors are members of a student's current teaching team and are responsible for monitoring that student's experiences at Cary Academy.

Lunch:
The entire Middle School dines at the same time in a family-style fashion. The goal of the lunch program is to provide an environment where students enjoy a meal while positively interacting with other students and adults.
