Documenting America
     An incredible collection of black and white and color photographs from the Depression to the end of World War II. Collection is put together by the Farm Security Administration and the Office of War Information Collection. 
Remembering Nagasaki
    Examples of photographs taken by Yosuke Yamahata after the bombing of Nagasaki. Includes text on Atomic Memories and commemorations. 
Posters of Persuasion
     A gallery containing poster replicas and a sound file divided into two sections by how the posters were meant to rally the American people.  
A People at War: Exhibit of WWII
     Original text and photographs of WWII including letters and biographies on such topics as Prelude to War, New Roles, Women Who Served, Science Pitches In and more. 
World War II Oral Histories
     The Drop Zone Virtual Museum allows its visitors to take a walkway into the past where photographs are exhibited and e-histories and oral histories bring the WWII experience to life.  
Oral History Archive
     This site contains the records of Americans who served on the home front and overseas during World War II. Includes interviews, a picture gallery, and links. 
Hyperwar: A Hypertext History of WWII
    Look up political papers, policies, treaties, and military/service histories from all areas of the American armed forces from the European and Pacific Theaters.  
Holocaust Cybrary
     A huge database containing letters, photos, poems, and facts to educate anyone about the Holocaust.

     This timeline includes important events and incidents that contributed to WW II. Timeline goes from 1918-45.  Includes links to many WWII topics. 

Holocaust Timeline

     A time line that includes dates, events, and links to articles that describe this subject in further detail from The History Place. Timeline goes from 1938-1945.
Women in WWII Timeline
     A time line containing events, images, and descriptions with a concentration on women's involvement. Covers the period from 1939-1945.

     This is a site containing a huge list of links to every World War II topic from the Holocaust, to Campaigns and Battles, to Naval Operations, to War Crimes.

     The resources on this site are in a multimedia format. Choose a topic such as Prelude to War and learn about it through images, maps, and text.

The American Experience
     From PBS, this site provides biographies on many key figures in WWII, D-Day narratives, Nurses' Tales, Voices from the Bulge and more. 
The Polish Campaign
     Includes maps, the Polish army and its equipment, German invasion, economics, and links to other Polish and German WWII sites. 

 

Battles
The Battle of the Atlantic
     A great site from the Mariner's Museum that provides incredible photos of warships and details about the various fleets and their forces and tactics. 
Battle of Britain
     Catalogues the most important event in Royal Air Force history. Includes background, operational diaries, commanders, units & stations, a gallery of great aviation photos, and links.
The Battle of the Bulge
     Although this page is not terribly well designed, it has a ton of information on this battle including a historical overview, monuments, armies, dates, quotes, letters, medics, memoirs, and more. 
Battle of Dunkirk
     From BBC News, this sites goes back in time 60 years to examine the evacuation at Dunkirk.  Includes first-hand accounts, slide shows, photographs, stories from the beaches, propaganda, and more. 
The Battle of Iwo Jima
    Japan's Iwo Jima strategy,  the US invasion strategy, the land battle, Iwo Jima flag raising photograph, war bond posters and much more.  
Midway
    Brief information about the Battle of Midway including forces and losses charts, first person narratives, monuments and current projects from the International Midway Museum. 
The National D-Day Museum
    Learn all about D-Day, see maps, a timeline, glossary, quotes, oral histories and more links. 
50th Anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy
    Includes information about planning and executing the invasion, equipment, the toll, and other D-Day sources.
