Summer Quest underway
Summer Quest 2008 is up and running, and this
year approximately 900 campers will participate in 218
camps.
The camps, including Beginning Model Rocketry,
Everyday Italian Cooking and Battle of the Bands,
address a wide spectrum of interest and hobbies.
Assisting in the camps are 14 volunteers, as well as six
CA alumni and five current students.
This year, Summer Quest has 2,448 spaces filled
in camps.
Debaters perform at nationals in Las Vegas
Four CA debate students traveled to the
National Forensic League’s national tournament held this
year in Las Vegas on June 15-20. John Nelson (’08),
Arjun Chandran (’08), Ben Goldhaber (’08) and Firoz
Jameel (’09) were CA’s representatives.
In competition, Nelson broke to the top 60 out of almost
300 foreign extemp champions from around the country.
Chandran was the only undefeated Lincoln-Douglas debater
(out of 221) after 14 rounds, and placed fourth
overall. Jameel started in a field of over 440
commentary competitors (extemp, sitting down), and went
five rounds to make it to the top 60.
Instructors R.J. Pellicciotta and Robert Coven served as
chaperons.
Ford, Kisley impress at Nike Outdoor
Tyler Ford (’08) and Hannah Kisley (’11) turned in
fantastic performances at the 2008 Nike Outdoor High
School Track & Field Championships that were held June
19-21 in Greensboro.
Ford jumped 38’ in the triple jump, just 10” shy of her
personal best and school record, to finish 17th out of
42 competitors. In the long jump competition Ford
fought through to qualify in fifth place going into the
finals. A fantastic effort on her fifth jump (19’5.25”)
moved her into fourth. On her final attempt Ford ended
her high school career with a huge jump that likely was
over 20’ and would have won the competition had she
taken off from the board. The competition was very
close with just 5.25” separating first from fifth place.
Besides being an up-and-coming distance runner, Kisley
also is an elite race walker. Competing in her second
Nike Outdoor Championships, Kisley had a very strong
showing in the one-mile race walk to finish seventh
overall. She bested her 2007 time by 23 seconds.
A complete list of the results from the 2008 Nike Outdoor Track & Field
Championships can be found at

section of biology but will not coach a team.
Helping Jones along the way will be Ray Pope, the new
