6th Grade Orchestra

Met three times a week TWF from 1:35PM to 2:20PM

This is the class for six grade students who interested in playing orchestra instrument and without any experience (Beginning Group) or they might have played a number of years but wants to continue and to improve their playing skill in the ensemble or orchestra setting (Advanced group).  It is required each of the student needs their own instrument and home practice 30 min. a day 5 days a week. This will be count 10% towards trimester final grade. Students will need to record their playing and send it to teacher by the due date.

The Course Guide Line 

Goals

 Students in MS 6th grade orchestra will learn how to play the orchestra instruments from the different level. The students will also learn the basic music terms and the ensemble playing skills. In the end of the school year, the beginners will be able to play as a small ensemble group and the experienced students will be able to play with the intermediate level group.

Skills

  1. Introduce the instruments and their basic playing skills. With many fun exercises develop student’s fingers and hands individual working skills.  
  2. Reinforce the music reading skills on student’s current level and smoothly to transfer to their instrument clef. Using the solo or soli part to challenge the experience students.
  3. Improve the students’ awareness and playing abilities of the tone quality on their  instrument.
  4. Expand on student knowledge of playing the music in orchestra group and how is the relationship between their individual parts and whole group.
  5. Learn the communication with the leader during the playing including fingering, bowing, phrasing, dynamic, tempo and counting.

 Activities 

  1. Two evening concerts will play in campus.
  2. One music festival or competition during the year.

Assessment

  1. Graded home practice sheet return once every other week.

    2.   One playing test in each trimester.

    3.    A theory test during 2nd trimester.
