The string orchestra conductor is: Professor Tracey Rush (Northeast Iowa Community College) and the symphony orchestra conductor is: Professor Yoichi Udagawa (Boston Conservatory of Music). 2005 Festival of Gold in Boston
Cary Academy Orchestra at the Boston Symphony Hall - April 24, 2005
|
Sunday afternoon, April 24th, 2005 the Cary Academy Orchestra successfully performed on the famous stage of the Boston Symphony Hall, one of the world’s best know performance venues, and home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops. Like world famous orchestras, 43 CA MS and US orchestra students sat on the stage of this acoustically superb Symphony Hall (built in 1900) presented an outstanding music with exact bowing, nice posture and beautiful sound. We received many positive comments form the audience, other school directors and judges. Among all 20 invited and participated Bands and Orchestras CA orchestra is one of the few smallest groups. Because of the schools size are not compatible the Festival does not issue the rank but only chose one Band and one Orchestra (according judge’s recommendation) to perform at the Encore Concert. On Monday morning, April 25th, CA orchestra students had the privilege to participate the Master’s Classes lead by the Boston Symphony members. They were instructed in playing skills, orchestra leadership, and professional career. In the evening encore concert CA students enjoyed performance of the Festival Honors Band and Orchestra plus two selected groups:
During the Encore Concert, CA students were able to recognize and appreciate the high level of performance that can be achieved by individual school orchestra and band. Cary Academy also had seven students invited to participate in the Honors Band and Orchestra performance. They were: Abraham Chen, Aparna Chatterjee, Bryce Poll, Jeffie Chang, Murphy Chang, Nathaniel Ting, and Rodrigo Haragutchi. They had the privilege of being led by the famed Boston Pops Orchestra conductor Kith Lockhart. During the Festival, student’s activities include the evening Banquet and Dance, visiting the Boston Aquarium, Harvard Univ, MIT, Berklee College of Music; they also walked on the Freedom Trail, Fenway Tour and had a great fun on the Duck tour…. I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to the participating parents and chaperones: Mr. and Mrs. Stanton, Marcey Setzer, Rhonda Roberts, Kaja Lee, Bath Mann, Mr. and Mrs. Evans, Sally Nunnally, Mary Blondy, Dr. Lerch, Mr. and Mrs. Haragutchi, Dr. Chatterjee, Cathy Frank, Robin Bryson and all the school’s support with this fantastic opportunity. While at the event, I discovered that one of my former students (18 years ago) is now a violinist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She came to the hotel to meet me and has graciously accepted my invitation to come to Cary Academy for a week next year to instruct our students and join them in a Gala Concert. Yiying Qiao |
