Ned Hamilton

Period 4

Room A203

This class is for students who have taken the Multimedia Technologies class. The class is a one trimester meeting five days per week during 4th period in Room A206.  The work in the class will be entirely project oriented. The class can be repeated for credit.

Grading: The class grade will be based on completion of project milestones and effort put into each project.

Homework: See this link for homework.

Projects: Projects will incorporate major modeling, animation, or composition using LightWave, Premiere, or After Effects. Projects will be reviewed and critiqued every two weeks. The projects will be completed by the making of a minimum 3-minute video that will also be converted into a streaming video to be placed on Cary Academy’s web site.  All projects will be placed in competition for the end of year Cary Academy Film Festival.

Rules and Guidelines: All work shall be original. Any video, still, or audio work that is not original is allowed only as small and unimportant components of the projects. Combining animated productions with live productions as well as collaborations between students and with other classes is strongly encouraged. Students will not be allowed to begin work on their projects until the project has been scripted or storyboarded and approved by the teacher. All projects must contain audio.

Students will be expected to research advanced techniques and will be asked to occasionally present what they have learned to the class.

Content Suggestions: Here are some suggestions for getting the creative juices flowing. You will be expected to submit a formal written proposal on August 24 (for fall trimester) detailing your project and including milestones for project completion. (e.g. modeling 4 weeks, animation 5 weeks, draft video completion: week 11. Final video: week 13.)

Demos and Tutorials: Look at this page for some wonderful demos and tutorials of advanced techniques.

Don’t get bogged down with technique. First come up with a subject and script it. Don’t start with a cool technique and try to find some subject material to fit the cool technique.
