BIO
I was born in Mystic, Connecticut, the fourth of five children. I attended the University of Connecticut and graduated from Southern Connecticut University. I married Marc LaFrance the summer I graduated from college and moved to Arlington, Virginia while my husband finished dental school. I taught elementary school in Rockville, Maryland for one year. After my husband graduated from dental school, we moved to San Diego, California where my husband served in the U.S. Navy. I taught elementary school in San Diego for seven years and received my Master's degree from the University of San Diego. All three of our children, Sean, Caitlin, and Ryan, were born in San Diego, and I stopped teaching to be a fulltime mom. We lived in Atlanta, Georgia for a short time before moving to the Triangle area in 1989. In 1991, we moved to Fayetteville, N.C., and I taught elementary school at Fort Bragg for one year. Our next move was to Alexandria, Louisiana. I taught at an independent elementary school until we moved back to the Triangle area in 1994. Since returning to Cary, I taught one year at Baucom Elementary School, one year at West Cary Middle School, three years at Cary High School, and five years at Green Hope High School.
My husband is a dentist at the Durham VA Hospital and works with the residency program at the UNC Dental School. Our oldest child, Sean, is a graduate of NC State's Computer Science program. Our daughter, Caitlin, is a senior at UNC Charlotte, majoring in History Education. Our youngest son, Ryan, is a sophomore at Georgia Tech, majoring in Computer Engineering.
I started playing tennis in San Diego and have played in tennis leagues in San Diego, Atlanta, and Cary. In the last three years I have started playing golf again and play on a Ladies 9-hole league during the school year and an 18-hole league during the summer. My lowest score ever occurred was 79! In addition to golfing and tennis, I love to read and go to the beach. I am very active in my church and enjoy being a part of a Bible Study.
I am excited to be a part of Cary Academy. Geometry is my favorite subject to teach, and I really enjoy using and learning new technology.
