Transitional Advancement Criteria
Math placement following Transitional Math is determined at the end of the year by the seventh grade math teachers (including Mrs. Williams) and the head of the middle school math department. Thoughtful deliberation is used in making placement decisions in an effort to ensure that each student has a successful math experience in the Middle School.

Students enrolled in Transitional Math  will move to Algebra I based on the following criteria.

bullet Overall in-class assessment average of 83 (B) or above
bullet Teacher observation over the course of a year of a student’s abilities relative to that of her/his peers
bullet Amount of additional assistance received from the seventh grade teacher and/or an outside tutor
bulletA student’s demonstrated cognitive development in abstract thinking and generalizing.
bullet ERB scores on the quantitative ability and mathematics sections
bullet The impact the math placement might have on a student’s ability to experience an overall successful eighth grade year given the academic demands of the eighth grade curriculum and the additional time demands of eighth grade extracurricular activities
