Concepts

Monophonic - One voice is heard or all voices play the same pitches in one or more octaves

Homophonic - One voice is clearly melodic (usually the top) while others are supportive

Polyphonic - Voices are melodically and rhythmically distinct from one another

Through Composed - Structure in which a piece is composed from beginning to end without repetition of large sections

Authentic Cadence – Dominant to Tonic (V to I)

Plagal Cadence – Subdominant to Tonic (IV to I)

Half Cadence – stops on Dominant or Subdominant (V or IV)
