The Auditions
Congratulations to:
Colin Everett ('08) and Patrick Kenna ('10)
who auditioned for the NCJR-Central All-Region Jazz Band
on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Orange High School in Hillsborough, NC.
The Central Region is new this year, representing hundreds of public
and private high schools and thousands of jazz band students throughout Central
NC. Simply by preparing for and performing the audition, students have set
themselves in the top 5-10% of students in the Region who play the same
instrument, regardless of whether or not they have been selected to be in a
band.
The audition consisted of learning a very challenging solo piece played with CD accompaniment, scales for the ii-V-I progression in the keys of B-flat and F, the blues scale in B-flat and F, sight-reading two pieces of music the students had never seen, and improvising two solos in the keys of B-flat and F with CD accompaniment. Over 100 students registered for the auditions and approximately 40 made one of the 2 High School Jazz Bands.
This is only the 5th year that the Regional All-State Jazz Bands have been in existence. Since 2004, 7 Cary Academy students have been selected to one of the bands, more than any other independent school in the Region.
