Committee Meeting Minutes, 10/26/99

Present: Don Berger (Chair), Dot Rosenbaum, Lori Mason, Bob Roth

1. Don reviewed the history of Cary Academy's long range planning process and this particular action committee's mission, which is to develop a family-school partnership document. This issue was considered a high priority item whose completion is targeted for the end of this school year. Other strategies under the Family section of the Long Range Plan will be addressed in the future.

2. The committee discussed the merits of a family-school partnership agreement versus a contract, and decided in favor of an agreement in the form of guidelines for interactions. If at a later date the community feels a need to make a stronger statement regarding the nature of our partnership, then guidelines could easily become a contract.

3. Don will contact other schools, locally and nationally, for models of guidelines and contracts. The committee felt no need to develop these from scratch. He will send these to committee members prior to our next meeting (11/30/99 at 4:30 p.m.).

4. After the committee completes a draft of the family-school partnership guidelines, it will publish them on the intranet for community review and comment.

5. The committee felt the best time to alert the community to our work (or anything in general) was to send it out with grades.
