Committee Meeting Minutes, 09/21/00

Present: Bob Roth, Denise Goodman, Dot Rosenbaum, Lori Mason, John Lucy, Don Berger

  1. Don reviewed the committee’s accomplishments from its first year, the production of three new documents to enhance communication between the school and its constituents: Family School Partnership Agreement, Cary Academy at a Glance, Guidelines for Communication. The committee also began work on a fourth document -- Guide to Parent Involvement at Cary Academy
  2. Tanya Lucas, Director of Development Coordinator, reviewed with the committee the draft of Guide to Parent Involvement at Cary Academy. The Advancement Office will publish this document and Tanya is the liaison between the Adavancement Office and the committee. The committee had quite a few changes for the text and the following general suggestions:
    1. Select a more formal font.
    2. Modify the layout so it is easier to read.
    3. Include a few pictures so as to make the brochure more attractive and interesting.

Tanya said she would email the committee a draft of the brochure prior to its next meeting.

  3. The committee decided that it would meet the first Tuesday of every month beginning November 7 at 4 p.m.
  4. The committee decided it would like to work on both of the following two strategies outlined in the Long Range Plan for achieving the policy goal in the Families section (Cary Academy will promote an active partnership among families, faculty, and administration to facilitate understanding and support of the school's mission, to support each student's well-being, and to enhance school pride and community spirit).
    1. Ways to improve parents receiving communication from the school
    2. Ways to increase parent involvement in school life.
  5. The committee decided to take turns taking meeting minutes.
  6. The committee proposed that at the beginning of each year the school hold a workshop for parents designed specifically to introduce them to and help them navigate the Intranet. (this will be shared with Leadership Team)
  7. The committee also suggested that whenever an email goes out to parents that refers to anything on the Intranet there be a direct link to the item contained in the email (this will be shared with Leadership Team).
