Committee Meeting Minutes, 11/06/00

Present: Don Berger, John Lucy, Dot Rosenbaum, Bob Roth

Don Berger, chairman, called the meeting to order at 4:10 P.M.

The committee discussed the objective of increasing parent involvement in school life. The committee identified various reasons for the current level of parent involvement and suggested possible strategies to increase that involvement. Such strategies might include:

  • Taking a more proactive approach in reaching parents by extending a personal invitation, via a telephone call, to participate in a particular event.
  • Tapping parent expertise.
  • Recognition for volunteers.
  • Establishing mentoring or tutoring programs.
  • Establishing neighborhood or geographically based groups to facilitate regular contact.
  • Making a special effort to engage new families.
  • Establishing an Alliance "Participation" Committee
  • Hiring a paid volunteer coordinator.

Prior to the next meeting, Tanya Lucas, Development Coordinator, will e-mail the committee a revised draft of the "Guide to Parent Involvement at Cary Academy".

The next meeting will be Monday, December 4th at 4:00 P.M. At that time the committee will continue their discussion of parent involvement and review the "Guide".
