Back to Committees After months of brainstorming, planning, drafting followed by discussion throughout our school community, and rewriting, I am pleased to share with you on behalf of the Board of Directors our Long Range Plan. I wish to thank all the individuals on the Long Range Planning committee and those parents, faculty, staff, and students who contributed to the Plan. Cary Academy now has a clearly stated long term shared vision for the future. Susan Stone, our consultant, quotes Peter Senge, author of The Fifth Discipline in her book Shaping Strategy, "…that a shared vision is not merely an idea '…but a force in people's hearts.' It creates 'a sense of commonality that permeates the organization and gives coherence to diverse activities… One of the reasons people seek to build shared visions is their desire to be connected in an important undertaking…''' This is where we stand today; such is the challenge we now face at Cary Academy. After months of initial planning and a three-day retreat in February, Susan Stone once again visited Cary Academy in July, and we began designing the implementation program to enable our vision to become a reality. Committees are now set up to work on the specific details, target dates, and activities to ensure forward progress towards completion of the Plan. I hope many of you will become involved and help us reach the goals outlined in the Plan. Under the guidance of the Long Range Plan Steering Committee, chaired by Lynne Fountain and Hugh Little, the Plan will be reviewed annually and progress reports made to the community. This is an exciting time for Cary Academy. We have the opportunity to build on our strengths, work on existing areas that need improvement, and grow and develop as we strive to accomplish the policy goals identified in the Plan. I hope you will embrace this venture with as much enthusiasm and dedication as those who have worked on the Long Range Plan. I look forward to working with you in the months ahead. The future of Cary Academy rests with each of us. Donald S.
