Road Parking Feedback

Outstanding idea and I know it will be very
much appreciated by middle school faculty.

A good
proposal! Parking can be very tight in that area and the extra
spots would certainly help.

I am highly in favor of this proposal but
would want to make sure the parking area had dedicated spaces
for faculty. As
well, I was appalled at the fact that RM’s car was hit and
damaged and that one of our parents simply drove away.
This is a good addition that will hopefully help us avoid
any incidences like this in the future. – Joselyn

This is a great idea.
It will help tremendously in scheduling summer camps in
the MS. Right now
we’re scheduling them primarily in the US which is partially due
to parking. Due to
the fact that we are planning more camps in the Middle School
this summer, is there a time frame as to when this will take
place? Will it
interrupt the parking/pick up schedule for the summer campers?
Thanks, Kris

Was not able to view the second document, but
from the information given and the outline on the first file -
it looks and sounds like a great idea! I would recommend
as many spaces as you can put in. Parking is always tight
over there, especially during sporting events.
Thanks for addressing the issues and keeping us moving
forward. Julanne

My vote
on the Grounds Committee (which I believe voted unanimously) was
to approve this plan.
Thanks for moving ahead with it.
I agree with the details and argument of the proposal as
Jess wrote it up, with one exception: there is a tree currently
in one of the proposed slots on the left hand side of the road.
We discussed keeping the tree (myrtle?) for aesthetics
and good practices, and again the whole committee agreed they
wanted to keep the tree. Thanks, Palmer

Perhaps sidewalk behind the concrete stops
(along the southern edge of the new parking slots) linking to
the sidewalk along the main drive?
speed bump east of (prior
to) the parking area (since backing out from the slots will be
"blind" if you assume a car / SUV is parked to the eastern side
of your car? Overall, great idea (I am currently a "lawn
parker"),thanks for sharing, Dan

Don, I think this is a very necessary idea. I for one would use
it and it might avoid parents crashing into faculty/employees
cars since it should eradicate the need to park on the hill when
all other spaces are filled.

I think adding the parking is a great
idea. Would you consider the use of permeable paving to
reduce storm water runoff?

Thanks for easy to review proposal with cost.
Need to know how much time it will take to complete and during
construction is there any disruption to traffic flow.In general,
I support based on this scope.Kumar Namdev

I think it would be better to add parking spots along the first
base side of the baseball field and along the road beside the
new softball field. If you can do that and add the hill side lot
as well that is even better. Best regards, Mark Easley

I think this is a good idea. I do think that
certain spots should be designated teacher spots so that the
primary purpose of this parking is fulfilled. I doubt it will
have much impact on the 3.05-3.15 crush of cars and poor driving
associated with that!Naomi

As with all good sidewalk placement, just better to wait to see
where the path is and then pave. Since
this has virtually become parking during any MS event, I think
it is a great idea to pave where folks are going to park anyway. Lynn

I think this is a great idea. But, I have a
concern for employees (primarily coaches) getting busses safely
from the bus lot to their team’s pick up spot in the afternoons.
Can the school include a “service” road for buses that would
exit onto Research Drive in front of the proposed MS parking
lot? Or, could the school build an entrance road for the
proposed lot and a separate exit road for buses? This exit road
would make it easier and safer to get buses to pick up locations
after school without delay. There is a small issue now with
employees/coaches getting buses out of the lot safely near the
end of school days (the potential for hitting a vehicle has
increased because of where people are now parking while waiting
for school to let out), and I can see a bigger problem if the
only exit for buses becomes a parking lot giving the possibility
of people parking on both sides of the proposed lot while
waiting. I would be glad to stop by and talk to you about what I
am suggesting. Thanks for asking for feedback. Eric Moore

I welcome this addition to the parking for CA. Although
our son is now in US, this was indeed an issue for us while in
MS. This will help increase the safety of parking and driving in
this area. My 2 concerns with this plan, which should be
manageable: (1)
Preservation of the large trees near this parking area. These
are priceless for the campus. Ensure construction does not
damage the root systems or cut off water supply. (2)
Encouragement of MS students to run up to / congregate at this
area during after-school pickup, making it more difficult for
the faculty attending the carpool pickup to keep an eye on them.
Thank you for the opportunity to offer feedback on this.

Love the idea.
Would it be possible to add even more spaces by
converting the grass area closest to Research Drive into a small
lot. Perhaps the
topography and/or cost would not permit this but thought it was
worth asking. Jennifer Landry

I highly support the additional parking. As a
bus driver, I am assuming from the looks of the drawing the
roadway between the parked vehicles will be adequate for
maneuvering a bus.

Great
idea Don. Parking during Meet the Teacher night etc will
also benefit, in fact based on the drawing it looks like you
could, if affordable, continue the parking all the way down to
connect with the other end where parking already exists. Thanks
for the opportunity for comment, Celeste

Thank you for the opportunity to provide
input. As you know, this area is already used for parking at
the end of the day, and there still does not seem to be enough
spots. How about expanding the proposed parking with more
parking spots along Research Drive?
My two cents.
Thanks again, Robert Reichel

I believe that Jess Garcia spoke with you
about the Japanese dry garden sixth graders are designing for
the area just beyond the new parking space.
He had informed me that the parking was going to be
extended and I had the students plan for this.
From the image you sent, it appears the ‘garden’ is not
being invaded. The
second parking space area does appear to be replacing the second
a garden area (where the pink Japanese maples(?) currently are.
Will those trees be removed to permit more parking?
I would like another class of sixth graders to design a
walking labyrinth in connection with our study of Japan and
Asia. I have not
spoken with Mr. Garcia about this addition and therefore did not
expect that he would have known my thoughts. Please let me know
if the additional parking will replace the beautiful trees in
that area. The
middle school is rapidly losing all options for beauty and
children’s activities by adding the new parking areas.
I am also concerned that the additional pavement will
force run off rain water to end up making the grounds
surrounding the middle school building even soggier than it
already is. Thank
you for requesting questions and feedback.

I like the idea – after school this area is
very congested especially when our Charger buses attempt to move
through this area.
The additional parking will be a welcome relief by many folks.

I couldn't read the Word doc attached,
but looked at the site plan. I recommend that you run this by
the sustainability committee for input on how this might impact
their mission, etc. Does the area have to be paved or can a
more environmentally friendly surface be used? Are you thinking
that any trees would have to be removed? Could there be some
landscaping added to offset the environmental impact?
Thanks—Cris Karasek
