Application for Campus Improvements: Middle School Auxiliary Road Parking Proposed Project: Middle School Auxiliary Road Parking, map located here. Purpose: Provide additional parking (30 spaces) off of the road that connects Charger Drive to the main road at the front of the campus. This is the road where many middle school faculty currently park. Scope of Work: The scope of the work would be to proved 30 asphalt parking spaces with concrete stops. The approximate cost would be between $8,000 and $10,000. Academic / Curriculum Needs: This project has no impact on curriculum Grounds / General Improvements:
Presently middle school faculty parallel park on the west end of this
road. Parents are using the grass area opposite faculty
parking for picking up students in order to avoid the front
of the middle school traffic congestion after school.
Creating a parking area on both sides of the road would
greatly reduce the risk of parents backing into faculty
cars. It would also add additional room for cars using this
room – presently it becomes a tight one lane road when
faculty are parked there. Materials used
will be identical to other parking areas around campus. Funding: Funds would come out of the current facilities budget. Annual upkeep would be minimal: occasional repainting lines and repairing asphalt as needed. Appropriateness:
This area of the
campus is designated academic but adding minimal cost
parking presently produces no negative impact on the
academic program. If this area were ever needed for a clear
academic purpose, changes to the parking area would be very
easy. Given that cars are already parking here – for pick up
and by parents and students related to middle school
athletic field and baseball field use – the paving and some
landscaping would actually improve campus aesthetic. Exhibits:
