Facilities and Grounds Review Board Committee Meeting
Minutes
March 1, 2004
Attendees:
John Miller, Don Berger, Jess Garcia, Louise Romanow, Bill
Coulthart, and Chuck Burdick
Amphitheater:
The committee
members reviewed the two proposals for an Amphitheater. LR
suggested placing an Amphitheater next to the flagpole and
construct it out of granite/stone. The model she proposed
is big enough for a class of 20 students. It would be
located this side of the low area, between the two trees,
and open and angled toward the quad. JG stated that we
would need to be careful with the placement due to
drainage. It could be made more secluded by plantings.
Susan Little estimated that the first model would cost
roughly $30,000. Committee members also liked the second
proposed style of amphitheater which would hold larger
classes. This style would work well on the hill between the
Fine Arts Building and the Middle School building.
The
mission for the Facilities and Grounds Committee is to
figure out if the proposals fit the guidelines CA has in
place regarding the improvement of the grounds/landscaping.
The committee would like to move forward on both
Amphitheaters.
To Do’s
LR will
go back and ask the Grounds Committee members about the
second sight suggestion. The Grounds Committee would
oversee the two projects.
A more
accurate estimate of the building costs for both
Amphitheaters needs to be obtained.
Fine
Art folks need to be asked for input on the Amphitheaters.
MS
Trellis Update:
The lowest bid for the revised trellis plans is $138, 500.
00. Committee members feel that both plans are appropriate
and would feel comfortable building the original plan which
cost much less. We need to seek Board approval for the
aesthetic nature of the first proposal.
