Facilities and Grounds Review Board Meeting
February 1, 2006

Attendees:  Don Berger, Marti Jenkins, Jon Powell, Robert Coven, John Miller, Alyssa Schwartz, Louise Romanow, Ellen Chartier, Jess Garcia and Tom Baker.

The plans for the athletic fields were reviewed along with the new field house.

There will be a fence to seperate the property lines, but the whole area will not be fenced.

Athletic Fields:

  • Would like to see more women’s’ bathrooms, but understand this is best we can do.
  • Relocate covered area – it is incorporated in the new design plan
  • Get rid of wall in covered area – JG will contact Cherry Huffman
  • Telephone access in concessions - double check phone in concessions stand and put a yellow (hot phone) phone also by fields, take door out and change size of window to 3 pane.

Stadium Press Box – Athletics/Boosters will see about the use of the space underneath the press box.  It may be limited due to the beam placement underneath the box.  Jon will talk with Boosters about the useRobert and Jon will look at how an awning could work on the back window of the press box.

The Grounds Committee will need to take a look at the landscaping plans for the athletic fields.  JG will give a copy of the plans to the Grounds Committee

Field House*:

  • Extend the men’s and women’s public restrooms to match the locker room walls.
  • Move up the men’s bathroom and move the office over to the space that was opened up with the move.
  • Recommend the blue color for the roof if it matches well with the press box
  • Glazed blue standard brick – like to see samples of brick and roof before make a decision, an email will be sent to committee members when we receive the samples and folks go down and see.

We should consider placing a pattern with more expansive brick work to make the building more aesthetically pleasing.

JF and DB will review column spacing on the back of the field house and the windows; why do we have two different types of windows.

*Jon Powell, Don Berger and Jess Garcia met with the architect on Thursday, February 9, and he will present a few redesign options that reflect the following considerations:

          1. Add more toilets to women’s public restroom

          2. Maintain a sight line for concession workers from the concession area to the stadium field

          3. Keep the picnic/congregation area away from restroom entrances as much as possible

          4. Make the picnic/congregation area as large as possible

The architect will also provide us with a roofing and brick sample of Cary Academy blue. If this color is approved, then we would repaint the Press Box CA blue when the Field House is built.
