Committee Meeting Minutes, 12/02/99
Members Attending: Don Berger, Lynne Fountain, Chris
Gilmore, Hugh Little, Sam Morris, Jan Vaughn, Brad Wilson
Broad discussion and general agreement that a Cary
Academy alumni "organization" should initially be
focused on friendraising rather than fundraising
- make sure students/alumni understand that they will
always be a part of the Cary Academy community.
- our alumni are ambassadors within the school, and
externally to their colleges and the community
To maintain connectivity communication is critical:
ACCESS, DISCOVERIES, alumni special mailings, home
page, emails
- keep them informed of school events, activities, etc.
- highlight alum achievements and activities in our
publications
- class agent will be a primary contact for alums –
information then forwarded to Advancement
Alumni database should be developed
- Interests/extracurricular activities
- Areas of study at CA
- Majors at college
Link to existing parent database for possible
internships/jobs
"Warm fuzzies" can go a long way in making
young alums feel remembered and valued
- Birthday cards
- CA students assist in putting together college
"exam survival kits" for alums
- A special alum visitor’s badge with their senior
picture scanned into it
- Holiday card with CD in it
Bring our alums back on campus
- Alum panel on a college night to discuss their college
experience (would our alums host CA students visiting
their college campus?)
- Develop a pattern of reunions early
- Establish a meaningful tradition (i.e., Homecoming,
special arts or talent show) that draws alum back to C
A
(e.g. include alums in graduation celebration).
Immediate objectives:
- Develop an alumni home page
- Develop alumni database template
- Host the Senior Class – have some fun/low key
- Explain their role as alumni
- Class agent
- Gather some input on how they feel we can help them
maintain a connection to the school
