Mission Statement

The mission of the Committee on Multicultural Initiatives and Diversity (COMID) is to foster our community and environment where the richness of our diversity is recognized, respected and embraced. Our view on diversity includes, but is not limited to, ethnic, racial and linguistic heritage; religious traditions; gender; sexual orientation; age; and socioeconomic status. Our objectives as a committee are to:

• Serve as a resource for the community in matters of diversity concerns and to make recommendations to address those concerns
• Provide in-service programs and workshops, or assist others with similar initiatives, that promote diversity
• Work closely with assembly coordinators in planning multicultural assemblies and programs
• Encourage leadership training programs and opportunities for a diverse students population
• Assist the Admissions Office in identifying, admitting and retaining students and families from diverse backgrounds
• Assist Division Heads in identifying, attracting, and retaining faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds
• Work in close partnership with parent diversity committees to promote parent education programs
• Assist academic departments in creating and incorporating curricula, materials and pedagogies that reflect multicultural traditions, history, achievements in all walks of life, and styles of learning
• Identify and celebrate accomplishments in our school community that foster a culture of inclusiveness
