Welcome!

We are happy to provide this web site for students and their families who are involved in the process of college search and application. The information provided here supplements the help and counsel available in the College Counseling Office. Students and their families are encouraged to share their questions with the College Counselors and to use the many resources available to Cary Academy students as they conduct their college searches. The College Counselors are available to help students clarify their college goals, do research about which colleges may be right for them, and help coordinate a plan which will help students reach their goals.

Information and links available through this web site should help make the process more manageable. Events and Items of Interest provides a calendar of college admissions' officers visits to talk with students at Cary Academy as well as other important calendar items. We also post occasional items of interest from The Chronicle of Higher Education, the National Association of College Admissions Counseling, and other sources.

No two students are exactly alike and neither are their college searches, but the Four Year Calendar provides checklist to help students move through the process in an organized and timely manner. The links available on the College Search page enable students to connect to web sites which provide information about colleges. They can be a useful supplement to the counseling and college suggestions provided by the College Counselor. There are many sites students can visit; we have provided several which have proven to be useful and contain generally accurate information. Similarly, the links to sites which enable students to take Virtual Tours are a useful way to preview campuses and help students and their families decide which colleges they might visit.

The Standardized Testing page provides links to the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB), the parent of the PSAT, SAT, SAT II, and AP examinations, and to the American College Testing Service (ACT). Students can find information about the tests as well as order test score reports and register for tests on-line. There is also a link to Fairtest, a public interest organization which provides an alternative view of testing and a list of colleges and universities which do not require SAT or ACT test scores as part of a student's application.

The Financial Aid page provides links to sources of information about need-based and non-need based sources of funding for college. Be sure to consult with the College Counselor to get up-to-date information about filing FAFSA forms and PROFILE applications as well as more detailed information about sources of grant and scholarship aid.

The Applying to College page takes the user directly to several sites which provide application services, both over the web directly to colleges and through production of paper applications. The increasing popular Common Application is also available through the link provided on this page.

Students and their families should take the time to familiarize themselves with Cary Academy's policies and procedures regarding preparing applications and the services provided by the College Counseling office. These are highlighted on the Applying to College page.

We hope the information and links provided through this site will be of benefit to all Cary Academy students and their families. We welcome your suggestions as we continue to develop this service.
