Which tests are which?
SAT and ACT, and TEST REGISTRATION
There are two major standardized testing programs for
college admissions: the SAT of the College Board and the ACT
Exam. Most colleges and universities accept either
score. The major difference between the exams is that
the ACT is an achievement test while the SAT is an aptitude
exam. Many students find that the ACT is a
good alternative (or even an "extra") exam to help show their
abilities to colleges. The College Counselor will be happy to
discuss this decision with students and their parents. You are
encouraged to use the links below to find out more about each of the
testing programs.

Students must send their test scores directly
to their colleges or universities from the test agencies. Cary Academy does not send test scores to
colleges!
PSAT: 2007
TEST DATE for 10th and 11th Graders: Wed, October 17, 2007
All 10th and 11th graders at Cary Academy are automatically
registered by the school to take the PSAT each fall.
The PSAT is a 2+ hour practice test for the SAT.
The 2007 PSAT will
be administered to all sophomores and juniors on Wednesday,
October 17th. The College Counselors will send
home more information about the PSAT in the fall.
PSAT scores are NOT reported to any colleges or
universities; only the student and the high school receive
the results. For sophomores, it is a very good "no
risk" opportunity to practice a standardized test, one tied
to the SAT. For juniors, the PSAT is another excellent
opportunity to practice for the SAT, but it is also tied to
the NMSQT National Merit Scholarship program.
The College Counselors will provide information about the
PSAT to sophomores and juniors each fall, before the PSAT.
In the meantime, information about the PSAT and the National
Merit program can be found at
PSAT Information.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS,
scheduled by the College
Board during two weeks in May are given
each spring at Cary Academy.
Typically, students in Advanced courses
take the corresponding AP exam at the year's end.

those who wish to explore the most recent list of colleges which do not
require a standardized test.
