Please Note: Any merit scholarship information that the school receives will be posted here.  The information will be updated each Monday, as needed, throughout the year.

Scholarships with the most immediate deadlines are listed first.  Further information is available at  the indicated website or in Mrs. King's or Mrs. Sellers' office as noted.

DECEMBER DEADLINES:
Randolph College Deadline: December 10, 2007
Presidential Scholars Programs - ranging from full tuition to $17,500 per year.  Other scholarships available ranging from $9,000 to $15,000, renewable annually.  See www.randolphcollege.edu  for more information.
First Cary Woman's Club Scholarship Deadline:  Dec. 21, 2007 See Mrs. King for apps
 $1,500 scholarship is available to Cary/Apex/Morrisville students, male or female based on academic record, financial need, potential to succeed, leadership ability and character.  Scholarship may be used only at a NC college or university.  The winner will progress to the Sallie Southall Cotten district competition in Raleigh to compete for $5,500/yr, 4 year scholarship for a total of $22,000 awarded by the NC Federation of Women's Clubs.  For information that must be submitted and an application see Mrs. King. 
JANUARY DEADLINES:
Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Deadline for apps to Mrs. King: January 10
Cary Academy can nominate 1 senior for the Robert Byrd Scholarship, a scholarship for students "who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement." It currently provides $1500 a year to recipients, which can be used at any accredited college.
Eligibility: US Citizen, legal resident of NC, enrolling full time at an accredited institution in 2008-2009.  Selection Criteria: SAT, high school grades, transcript analysis.
Because we can only nominate 1 student,
we require that any student who wishes to be considered turn in a completed application form (available from Mrs. King) by Jan. 10.  Then, we will calculate a GPA for all courses 9-11, we will count the # of H/ADV, and we will look at the student's best SAT scores.  Each senior who asks to be considered will have each of the 3 criteria ranked in order, 1 to n.  The student with the lowest score will be the nominee. No other criteria is used for the Byrd, so those are the only 3 criteria we will use in selecting the nominee. The school nominee will then complete the final application (1/2 page) and we will mail to be received by the deadline of Feb. 8.
Birmingham-Southern College Deadline:  January 1, 2008
Presidential and Trustee Scholarships ranging from full tuition  to $13,000 annually.  Also, Foundations Awards and Partnership grants available ranging from $4,000 to $8,000 annually.
University of Chicago Deadline:  January 2, 2008
College Honor Scholarship - Recognize students for their outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to their communities.   Provides full tuition awards to 20 highly qualified entering freshmen. Scholarships are guaranteed for four years. College Honor Scholarships cover the entire cost of tuition. Around 100 University Scholarships are given out each year, and they cover around a third of tuition. Gates Millennium Scholars Deadline:  January 11, 2008 (online application)
Students are eligible to be nominates or recommended if they:
*  Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American
*  Are a citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the United States
*  Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted) or have earned a GED
*  Will be enrolling for the first-time at a U.S. accredited college or university as full time, degree-seeking first year student in Fall 2008
*  Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities
*  Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria
*  Have all three required forms submitted by the deadline

Vanderbilt University Deadline:  January 3, 2008
Cornelius Scholarship - full tuition plus stipends for summer study abroad or research.  Renewable with 3.0 GPA.  Selection process based on academic achievement, intellectual promise, and leadership.  **New this year**Students MUST submit a separate application for all merit scholarships.** For an application and more information see www.vanderbilt.edu/scholarships

Skidmore College Deadline:  January 15, 2008
Filene Music Scholarship - $40,000 ($10,000 each year) Competition is open to high school seniors who meet the criteria for admissions to Skidmore College and who apply by January 15, 2008.  Program does not require that scholarship winners major in Music.  It is required that you register online at www.skidmore.edu/filenescholarship
Porter Presidential Scholarship in Science and Mathematics Deadline:  January 15, 2008
5 Scholarships are awarded each year without regard to financial need.  Each Porter Scholar receives a $40,000 scholarship ($10,000 per year).  To be considered you must respond to the Porter essay question on the Skidmore Supplement to the Common App. Selection based on strength of the admin application with emphasis on course work in science & math, standardized tests, teacher rec.  For more information see www.skidmore.edu/administration/financial_aid/porter_scholarship.htm
Southern Methodist University Deadline:  January 15, 2008
Hunt Leadership Scholarship Program - full tuition and fees and funds a study abroad program.  To qualify you must demonstrate extraordinary leadership, submission of the Hunt Essay, rank in to 25% of graduating class, 1230 SAT or 28 ACT and have completed a strong college preparatory curriculum.  For more information see www.smu.edu/hunt
Southern Methodist University Deadline:  January 15, 2008

McKelvey Foundation Deadline:  January 15, 2008 (online application)
$40,000 Scholarship for Young Entrepreneurs ($10,000 per academic year) available to all high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own businesses while in high school.  To qualify:
*  Graduate high school in the Spring of 2008
*  Attend a 4 year college or university, private or public, within the 50 states
*  Own and operate a genuine business, non-profits are eligible for at least one year
*  Have at least one paid employee, even if only part-time
They do not select scholars based on academic achievement or financial need.  Awards are based solely on demonstration of entrepreneurial spirit.

Washington University in St. Louis Deadline:  January 15, 2008

Ohio Wesleyan University Deadline:  February 1, 2008
Schimmel Scholarship - full tuition, room and board to one outstanding freshman woman, regardless of her financial need or field of academic interest.  To qualify:  GPA of 3.9 or above and rank in the top 5% of her class.  For more information see www.owu.edu

Young Epidemiology Scholars Deadline:  February 4, 2008

Elon University Deadline:  February 8, 2008
Thad Eure NC Achievement Scholarship - $12,000 scholarship, renewable each year for a total of $48,000.  To qualify student must: reside in Alamance, Orange, Durham, Chatham, Randolph, Davidson, Guildford, Forsyth, Rockingham, Caswell, Wake or Person county.  Demonstrate significant financial need (with preference to Pell-eligible students) and have a strong record of academic achievement of leadership through school, church, or community organizations.  For more information see www.elon.edu
Leon &Lorraine Watson NC Scholarship - $10,000 in scholarships and grants.  Also a one-time grant of up to $4,000 to fund a study abroad experience.  To qualify student must be NC resident for at least one year, high financial need (with preference to Pell-eligible students) and have a strong record of academic achievement.  In the selection process, preference will be given to certain students.  For more information please see www.elon.edu
Best Buy Scholarship Deadline : February 15, 2008
Best Buy Scholarship winners not only hit the books - they help their community!  They reward students for their volunteer efforts and work experience in addition to academic achievement.  1,500 students will be selected to receive $1,500 each and an additional 51 students will be awarded $10,000 each.  To qualify students must have a cum GPA of 2.5, live within 75 miles of a Best Buy store, demonstrate commitment to and involvement in volunteer community service or work experience, and plan to enroll full-time at a two or four year college.  Applications must be submitted online only.  For more information see www.bestbuy.com/scholarships
National Co-op Scholarship Deadline:  February 15, 2008

Burger King Scholars Program Deadline:  February 15, 2008
$1,000 is awarded for educational expenses during the first year of college.  To quality you must maintain a cum GPA of 2.5 or higher, work part-time avg 15 hrs/wk, be actively involved in community service activities, and demonstrate financial need.  Students do not have to be employed at Burger King to be eligible for scholarship.  For more information and online application see www.bk.com/scholars

NIH (National Institutes of Health) Undergraduate Scholarship Program Deadline:  February 29, 2008

NIH (National Institutes of Health) Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers an innovative program to support the career development of the next generation of biomedical health researchers. This service-connected scholarship program, Undergraduate Scholarship Program for Individuals from Disadvantaged Backgrounds (UGSP), targets students who are committed to pursuing careers in biomedical, behavioral and social science health-related research. The scholarship program offers up $20,000/year in scholarship support, paid research training at the NIH during the summer and after graduation and Intensive mentoring research experience, career guidance, and skill development. North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2008
In appreciation for the service and sacrifices of North Carolina's war veterans, a four year scholarship program at North Carolina approved schools has been established for the qualifying student of deceased, disabled, combat, or POW/MIA veterans. See Mrs. King for applications.

Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship Deadline:  March 1, 2008

The Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship is a merit and need-based recognition award which rewards needy students who have demonstrated academic success, leadership and special achievement throughout their high school careers. Recipients will receive a $5,000 per year award, which may be renewable for a total of four years.  Attached is an information flyer for this scholarship.  Candidates must complete both the scholarship application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for consideration for this award. The preferred method of application is via the web at the following web address: www.ncsu.edu/cls. A hard-copy version of the application is attached for students who do not have computer or Internet access. The form may be printed and photocopied for use by more than one student if necessary.

The Jewish Educational Loan Fund has been helping Jewish students attain their dreams of a higher education by granting them interest-free loans since 1961.  There is no fee to apply for a JELF loan.  In order to qualify:  Must be Jewish, must me a U.S. citizen or a legal resident, must demonstrate financial need, and must need a JELF loan for special post-secondary training, undergraduate study or graduate school.  Applications must be completed online and are due April 15,2008.  Loan decisions are made by the end of July.  For more information www.jelf.org

College Scholarship Opportunity for Survivors of Childhood Cancer. The Cancer Society’s Scholarship Program is open to any survivor childhood cancer that will attend an accredited two or four year institution and was diagnosed before the age of 19 and are currently under 25. AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship Program Deadline:  April 1, 2008

AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship Program is now accepting applications from all liberal arts degree holders of any regionally accredited US institution, who wish to pursue a CPA certificate. Scholarships are given based on academic achievement, leadership, and future career interests and are contingent upon acceptance in a graduate accounting program.
