Members of the Class of 2008 have reported that they have been offered the following merit  scholarships from colleges, universities and outside agencies.
This list represents over 2.5 million in merit scholarship offers to students in the Class of 2008, and it includes only those offers which students communicated to the College Counseling Office.  Congratulations, seniors!
 

Elizabeth Atkins
American University: $27,000 per year Presidential Scholarship, renewable for four years.

Cameron Bumgarner
Mercer University: $15,000 per year merit scholarship, renewable for four years.

Rame Coppedge
IBM T
homas J. Watson Memorial Scholarship, which provides $2000 annually to any college or university.
NCSU: John L. Wasik Freshman Scholarship in Statistics, $1000 scholarship
SAS Institute Scholarship: $1500 per year and guaranteed summer internships

Max Dancik
Bentley College: President's Scholarship in recognition of academic achievement, 1/3 tuition academic scholarship of $11,010 a year, automatically renewable for 3 additional years totaling over $40,000.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute: Rensselaer Merit Award and Housing Scholarship totaling $10,000 per year for four years.

Katherine Ernst
UNC Chapel Hill: Class of 2012 Distinguished Scholarship of $2500 a year for four years.

Ben Goldhaber
UNC Chapel Hill: Carolina Scholars program and $8,000 per year merit scholarship, renewable for four years.

Stuart Gordon
Wittenberg College: Provost Scholarship of $18,000 per year
Rhodes College: Presidential Fellowship of $12,500 per year, in addition to the Rhodes Grant of $3,500 per year for a total of $16,000 per year for 4 years.
Case Western Reserve University: $18,000 merit scholarship per year.

Andrea Green
National Merit Scholarship Award: One of 2500 National Merit Scholarships offered in the US to National Merit Finalists.  The $2500 scholarship can be used at any college or university.
UNC Chapel Hill: Class of 2012 Distinguished Scholarship of $2500 a year for four years.

Jackie Humphrey

State Employee Association of North Carolina (SEANC) Scholarship: Received $400 scholarship, which can be applied at any college or university.

LexJordan Ibegbu
Ronald McDonald Merit Scholarship of $1000.

Andrew Killmer
Gordon College: $8,000 per year Dean's Scholarship for academic excellence, renewable for four years, in addition to $1,500 per year Gordon College Partners Grant for academic excellence
Calvin College: $3,500 per year Calvin Faculty Honors Scholarship for academic excellence; $1,300 per year Nellie and Sue Miller Scholarship for community involvement and academic excellence.
Geneva College: $6,000 per year for four years Geneva Scholar Award for academic excellence
Covenant College: $8,000 per year for four years Presidential Scholarship

Jackie Lee
UNC Chapel Hill: Class of 2012 Distinguished Scholarship of $2,500 per year for four years
IBM James Watson Scholarship: $2,000 per year for four years.
Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship: $1,500 per year for four years.

Michelle Luo
UNC Chapel Hill: Distinguished Scholarship of $2,500 per year for four years
Georgia Tech: National Merit Finalist Scholarship, $1000 per year for four years


Yasmeen Mansour
UNC Chapel Hill: Class of 2012 Distinguished Scholars Award, $2,500 per year for four years.

Lanie Mason
Clemson University: Out of state tuition waiver and $500/year scholarship, totaling over $13,000 per year for four years.
St. Francis United Methodist Church Scholarship: $500 per year merit scholarship

Vann Mitchell
Wake Forest University: Presidential Scholarship in Music, $11,200 per year for four years.
Elon University: $3,000 per year Music Scholarship

John Nelson
George Washington University: Elliot School of Foreign Affairs scholarship of $15,000 per year for four years.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: Class of 2012 Distinguished Scholars Award, $2,500 per year for four years.
IBM Thomas J. Watson Memorial Scholarship: $2,000 per year renewable for four years.


Rachel Park
Tulane University: Presidential Scholars merit scholarship of $24,000 per year for four years.
SAS Institute Scholar Award: $2,500 per year scholarship, renewable for four years.

Julie Pechanek
McDaniel College: $10,000 per year merit scholarship
Drexel University: Dean's Scholarship, offered to a select group of highly qualified students, of $9,500 per year for four years
Savannah College of Art and Design: $15,000 per year merit scholarship awarded based on submission of video and photography portfolio.

Kim Ray
University of Richmond: Boatwright Scholarship, full tuition for four years, equivalent to approximately $150,000 over four years.
Tulane University: Presidential Scholars Award of $24,000 annually for four years
University of Michigan: Michigan Tradition Award of $10,000 annually for four years

Alyssa Schwartz
Indiana University: Prestige Scholarship of $5,000 per year for four years, awarded to students who have attained a prestigious level of academic achievement in high school.

Lindsey Smith
George Washington University: Merit scholarship of $10,000 per year, renewable for four years
Hampton University: Full tuition scholarship for all four years
Howard University: Legacy Scholarship, which covers full tuition for all four years.
Agnes Scott College: The Agnes Scott College Honors Scholarship, for $12,000 annually for four years

Scott Stanton
Virginia Tech: Emerging Leader Scholarship for members of the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech, including $3,000 annually for four years

David Thorstad
Brandeis University: Presidential Scholarship of $25,000 per year for four years, awarded to approximately 50 students in each class who demonstrate unusual academic potential.
Vassar Scholarship of $15,559 per year for four years
Haverford College: Rhoads Scholarship, offering $100 annual grants for the Magill-Rhoads scholars to use as they see fit in support of philanthropic causes, especially those associated with the arts, community service, or educational programs.
UNC Chapel Hill: Carolina Scholars Award of $8,000 per year for four years.

Robert Thorstad
Brandeis University: Alumni and Friends Scholarship of $15,080 a year, renewable for four years.
Vassar Scholarship of $15,559 per year for four years
Haverford College: Rhoads Scholarship, offering $100 annual grants for the Magill-Rhoads scholars to use as they see fit in support of philanthropic causes, especially those associated with the arts, community service, or educational programs.

Christina Wieand
University of Miami: University Scholarship of $24,000 per year for four years, in recognition of distinguished academic accomplishments
Pepperdine University: Dean's Scholarship of $22,000 per year for four years, in recognition of outstanding academic and personal accomplishments
University of Hawaii: Chancellor's Scholarship of $6,000 per year for four years.
University of Central Florida: Director's Achievement Award, $3,000 per year for four years

Hill Winstead

Wofford College: $25,000 per year for four years, Benjamin Wofford Scholarship
Sewanee: The University of the South: Presidential Scholarship of $8,000 per year.

Diana Woodall
Emory University: Flora Glenn Candler Scholarship, a full tuition scholarship valued at $35,800 per year for four years, or approximately $143,000 over four years.
UNC Chapel Hill: Class of 2012 Distinguished Scholarship of $2500 per year for four years.
Coca-Cola Scholarship: one time $10,000 scholarship to be used at any accredited college or university in the U.S.
National Merit Siemans Scholarship: $2,000 per year for four years, sponsored by the Siemens Foundation
Best Buy Scholarship: onetime $1,500 scholarship to be used at any accredited college or university in the U.S.

Rachel Yip
Agnes Scott College: Scholarship  Semi Finalist, awarded $15,000 per year for four years.
