College - 2007 Merit Scholarships

Members of the Class of 2007 have reported that they have
been offered the following merit scholarships from
colleges, universities and outside agencies.
This list represents approximately
1.75
million in merit scholarship offers to
students in the Class of 2007, and it includes only those
offers which students communicated to the College Counseling
Office. Congratulations, seniors!
Stephanie Aanstoos
Mississippi State University: Awarded a $2500 per year
renewable scholarship, as well as a special scholarship
through the Animal Science Department valued at $1000 per
year, for a total of $14,000 over 4 years.
Stephanie Bauman
University of Miami: Dean's Scholarship
which carries a stipend of $16,000 annually for
full-time study starting during 2007-2008 academic
year. In granting this scholarship, the University
of Miami recognizes the recipient's distinguished
academic accomplishments. This totals $64,000
over 4 years.
University of Colorado at Boulder:
Chancellor's Achievement
Scholarship, which is "dedicated to recognizing
outstanding achievement among incoming freshmen."
Chancellor's Achievement Scholars receive a $15,000
award payable over a four year period.

UNC-Wilmington: Offered a full Division I women's
basketball scholarship to play with the Seahawks
Patrick Britt
Lees-McRae College: Burton Scholarship,
$5,000 a year, renewable for 4 years
Jon Bystrynski
Denison University: the Denison Alumni Award,
providing $11,000 each year for four years
Ursinus College: Urinsus Scholar award, valued at $17,500
each year for four years

Pratt Institute: Presidential Merit Scholarship of
$12,000 a year for up to 4-5 years
University
of the Arts: Presidential Scholarship of $12,000 a year
for up to 4 years
Kevin Cotter
Tulane
University: Distinguished Scholars Award, $22,000 for 4
years, $19,000 towards tuition and $3,000 to cover on campus
housing
Alanna Daley
University of South Carolina: The
McKissick Scholars Award, based
on excellent academic achievement, worth $2,000 per year,
total of $8,000 over four years of study from University of
South Carolina. USC also reduces tuition to in state rate
for students awarded one of their scholarships which would
equate to a $57,000 award over a four year period.
Caitlin Daniels
North Carolina State University: Awarded the Park
Scholarship at NCSU--a full, comprehensive merit scholarship
for 4 years, valued at $60,000, in addition to special
programs and opportunities. Caitlin was also awarded the
Jefferson Scholars Program at NC State, a dual-degree and
academic program, providing an additional $1000 in junior
and senior years.
Zach
Finkel
University of Georgia:
Awarded the One UGA Scholarship,
offered to students with strong academic
accomplishments and who contribute to
the broad definition of diversity at the
University of Georgia, a $1500 per year
scholarship. In addition, UGA
offered a waiver of 1/2 of instate
tuition, bringing the total to
approximately $8000 per year for 4 years
Jake Hartsfield
Belmont University: $6,000 per year merit scholarship,
awarded on the basis of high school record and outstanding
scholarship. Renewable each year for a total of $24,000 over
4 years.
University of Southern California: Director's Scholarship,
an award of $4,000 per year for a total of $16,000 over 4
years.
New York University: Tisch Scholarship of $1000, renewable.
Sarah Helfer
Vanderbilt University: Dean's Select
Scholarship which covers 75% of tuition
or approximately $100,000 total over 4
years Also awarded $2000 per year
for 4 years because of status as a
National Merit Finalists status
UNC-Chapel
Hill: $2500 per year for four years
IBM Thomas J. Watson Memorial
Scholarship, which provides $2000
annually to any college or university
Brendan Kiu
Vanderbilt University: Full tuition
scholarship at $37,000 per year for four
years, or approximately $128,000 over
four years depending on the increase in
tuition
Carnegie Mellon University: Awarded the
Andrew Carnegie Scholarship, which
covers cost of half tuition (currently
$18,475)
+ $5000 Institutional Scholarship at
$23,475 per year
Wheaton College, IL: Presidential
Scholarship at $1000
Robert C. Byrd Scholarship by the North
Carolina State Government at $1500 per
year
IBM Watson Scholarship: $2000 per year
for four years
National Merit Scholarship
Award: One of 2500 National Merit Scholarships offered in
the country to National Merit finalists. $2500 scholarship,
underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation,
and can be used at any college or university.
Lowe's Community Scholarship: $1000
scholarship for the 2007-2008 academic
year, to be used for expenses at any
accredited college or university in the
U.S.

IBM Thomas J. Watson Memorial
Scholarship, which provides $2000
annually to any college or university
UNC Chapel Hill: Class of 2011 Distinguished Scholarship,
$2500 a year for 4 years
Northwestern University: Northwestern Scholarship, valued at
$6380 per year
Michelle LeFort
Saint Mary's College, IN:
LeMans
Award from St. Mary's College in recognition of her
outstanding academic achievements in high school. The total
award over 4 years is $30,000.
Cori Lindler
University of South Carolina: The McKissock Scholars
Award, providing $2000 per year in addition to in state
fees, which would equate to $57,000 over four years.

IBM Thomas J. Watson Memorial
Scholarship, which provides $2000
annually to any college or university
UNC-Chapel Hill: Class of 2011 Distinguished Scholarship,
$2500 a year for 4 years
Swapanthi Nagulpally
UNC Chapel Hill: Carolina
Scholars Award, valued at $7500 per year
for 4 years
Kelsey Nix
Texas Tech: $2500 merit
scholarship each year for four years, in
addition to a waiver for out of state
tuition for four years
Alex Rosen
UNC-Chapel Hill: Class of 2011
Distinguished Scholarship, valued at
$2500 per year for four years.
Toni Sayers
Meredith College Academic Award: $5,000
per year for a total of $20,000 over
four years. This award recognizes
students having superior academic
ability, achievement and leadership
potential.
Bryelle Smith
Clemson University: Offered a
Division I scholarship to play women's
basketball at ACC's Clemson University.
Morgan Smith
Sweet Briar College: Sweet Briar
Scholarship $9,000 per year, total =
$36,000 "in recognition of academic
record and extracurricular involvement
in school and community."
College of Charleston: Presidential
Scholarship, College of Charleston's
most prestigious scholastic achievement
award valued at $7,000 per year, total =
$28,000, and invitation to the Honors
program
Bryan Still
Elon University: Elon
Presidential Scholarship for $5,000
yearly and also offered the Elon Honors
scholarship at $9.000 yearly.
Alex Su
Furman University: Named a Furman
Scholar based on academic achievement,
guaranteed a $4,000 minimum renewable
scholarship. Also awarded the Achiever
Scholarship--$9,000 renewable
scholarships awarded to students on the
basis of academic achievement and
potential for success at Furman, and the
Honor Scholar--$5,000 Renewable
scholarships also awarded to students on
the basis of academic achievement and
potential for success at Furman.
UNC-Chapel Hill: James M. Johnston
Scholarship based on outstanding
academic achievement and leadership
potential as a student at the
University.
Nick Tarleton
Goucher College: Global Citizen
Scholarship, $15,000 per year or $60,000
over 4 years
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute:
$15,000 per year for winning the
Rensselaer Medal, also $60,000 over 4
years
Josh Walsh
Founders College: The Challenger
Scholarship - $2,000 per year for all
four years, awarded to students that
show promise of academic achievement in
spite of personal obstacles; Also the
Future Entrepreneurs and Wealth Creators
Scholarship - $2,000 per year for all
four years (received the scholarship for
1st place for an essay identifying the
cultural values created by entrepreneurs
and moneymakers and explaining how this
occurs). Also awarded the Victor Hugo
Writing Scholarship, $2,000 per year for
all four years. Finally, the Founders
Scholarship - up to $4,000 per year for
all four years, awarded to those
students who show exceptional promise
for academic and professional success.

Distinguished Scholarship, providing
$2500 per year for four years.
Jordan Washington
Lehigh
University: PC Rossin College of
Engineering and Applied Science, offered
$10,000 scholarship automatically
renewable for 4 years.
George Washington: School of Engineering
and Applied Science, offered $15,000
scholarship automatically renewable for
4 years.
Audrey Weinbrecht
Guilford College: $19,000
($4800/year) Incentive Award from
Guilford College
Jordan Wolfinger
Connecticut College:
$25,000 per year tuition exchange
scholarship through Meredith College, or
$100,000 over 4 years.
Skidmore College: $25,000 per year
tuition exchange scholarship through
Meredith College or $100,000 over 4
years.
Dickinson College: $7500 per year
tuition exchange scholarship through
Meredith College, or $30,000 over 4
years.
University of Richmond: $31,000 per year
tuition exchange scholarship, or
$124,000 over 4 years.
