Required Steps to Join the  Cary Academy National Honor Society 2006-07

The deadline for submitting materials for the Fall selection period is Thursday, March 29, by 3:15 pm.  It is recommended that you give all materials directly to Mr. Coven.

Please review the constitution, bylaws, and selection criteria to determine whether you are eligible and interested in becoming an NHS member.  You may also speak with the NHS advisor and other faculty members.

If you are interested, believe you meet the requirements, interested in NHS membership, and are willing to become an active member of our chapter, please do the following:

1. E-mail Mr. Coven and ask that your GPA be checked to determine your eligibility
2. Once you hear back that you meet the GPA requirement, COMPLETE AND SUBMIT:

• The NHS Procedure letter (you and your parents must sign it)
• a Student Activity Information Form (attach additional pages if necessary)
• your essay explaining why you wish to be an NHS member and the contribution(s) you think you will make as a member of our chapter (this is part of the Student Activity Information form),
• and list two Cary Academy faculty members as references on your student information form.  You will need to have these faculty members submit the Cary Academy Faculty Recommendation Form for you on your behalf.  You may print out the form and give them a copy.  They should return it to you in a sealed envelope so that you can turn it in with your student activity form.

THE ABOVE ITEMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED ON TIME OR THE FACULTY COUNCIL CANNOT CONSIDER YOU FOR SELECTION.

The Faculty Council also strongly encourages you to submit one additional letter from an adult associated with another extracurricular activity that you are involved with, e.g., scouts, service, religious group, etc.  It will likely give the Faculty Council a more complete picture of your candidacy.  Please make your recommender aware of the criteria for NHS selection and have him or her address areas relevant to your candidacy.  There is no form for this recommendation; a letter addressing your qualifications is sufficient.  All letters from outside sources must be received by the posted deadline.

The Faculty Council will notify you regarding its decision as soon as possible.
