Xenon is a member of the noble gas family, located in period five and group 18. Xenon, like the rest of its family, has a full valence shell (8 valence electrons). This means that it is stable and not very reactive. Despite its stability, is does have the ability to react and create compounds. The noble gases are less likely to react because they don’t need anymore electrons. When elements or atoms create compounds they are either sharing, getting or receiving electrons to make themselves stable.
