Strontium was found by an English doctor
named Adair Crawford in 1789. He found it in a Scottish village, and
decided to name it after the name of the village, which was called Strontian.
Strontium itself appears to be similar to some barium minerals, however,
Crawford was clever enough to recognize that this was in fact a new mineral.
In 1808, Humphrey Davey isolated strontium by electrolysis, which is the way that
Strontium is usually prepared for its many uses.
