Important/Common Compounds:
Polonium Hydroxide
PoCl2
PoCl4
PoO
PoI4
PoBr4
PoBr2
PoF4
PoF6
Uses of Polonium and its Compounds:
(a photographic brush containing polonium 210)
heat source for space equipment (such as satellites)
source of radiation in research projects
removes static electricity in equipment for rolling paper, wire or sheet metal
used in brushes to remove dust from photo film
note: in all uses of polonium extra care must be taken to protect the user because of its high level of radioactivity
One of the interesting things about polonium is its possible connection to creation. There is a fair amount of controversy over whether the existence of polonium halos disproves the Big Bang theory. It is said that this theory is false because polonium 218 has a short half-life, which means that for polonium to form these halos, it must have been put inside the granite very quickly, in a shorter amount of time than the Big Bang theory would support.
