Important Compounds Involving the Elements

Platinum forms a number of compounds:

    *  Heated with aqua regia it forms chloroplatinus acid, H2PtCl4.

    *  With excess HCl in the aqua regia chloroplatinic acid, H2PtCl6.

    *  Additions of ammonia to platinum salts form complex ammines of the platino type, such as  Pt(NH3)4Cl2.

    *  Many brilliantly fluorescent double compounds are known, such as Pt(CN)2  - Ba(CN)2 - 4H2O

    *   Chloroplatinous acid heated with chlorine forms PtCl4.

    *   Chloroplatinous acid heated with chlorine forms PtCl4.

    *   Chloroplatinous acid heated with chlorine forms PtCl4.
