Uses
of Niobium
Niobium
has various uses:
- It
is used in arc-welding rods for stabilizing the different forms of stainless
steel.
-
Larger amounts of niobium are used in advanced air frame systems.
- Due to niobium’s super conductive properties, super conductive magnets
have been made with niobium-zinc wire.
(This use of niobium as a super conductive magnet has suggested that
niobium can possibly be used in the future for direct large-scale generation of
electric power ("Molecule Man's
Cyber-rific
Periodic Table of Elements")
- Because it does not react with uranium
and how it does not corrode, Niobium
has been used in nuclear reactors.
- Along
with titanium, Niobium is frequently used in pacemakers, artificial joints,
and dental implants.
- Some
earrings are hung from niobium wires ("What
is Niobium")
