Europium Home Page

(Eu)

Welcome! This web site is dedicated to Europium. Europium is one of the many elements in the lanthanide series. Lanthanides are found at the bottom of the periodic table and include all elements with atomic numbers from 58 - 71. Lanthanides are typically known for being shinny and very reactive. Europium is also a rare earth metal. So rare in fact that it can only be found in bastnasite or monazite sand. Today most Europium is produced in laboratories. It's prepared by mixing 10% Lanthanum metal and heating the mixture in a crucible under a high vaccume. The element is then collected from the sides of the crucible.
