The Uses of Chlorine


- Chlorine is used for the production of safe drinking water. It is not used in its natural state, but in the form of an ion. Chlorinated water has reduced the risk and outbreak of typhoid fever.

- It is also used in the production of paper products and textiles. When chlorine is not present in paper, the paper has a yellowish tent to it.

- Cleaning compounds and disinfectants also contain chlorine. The compound CaOCl2, or calcium hypochlorite, is used as a bleaching powder.

- salt for a healthy, balanced diet (in the form of the compound NaCl)

- The manufacture of disinfectants, medicines, antiseptics, insecticides, food, solvents, paints, plastics, and other consumer products relies on chlorine.

- The cleaning of swimming pools.
