APPLICATION
Location of
extraction, process of exploitation, common compounds involving
the element, uses of the element and its compounds.
_____Although Cadmium is often compared with mercury, in terms of toxicity, it is still a valuable element in the industrial sector and nonetheless continuously exploited. As long as the demand for element #48 continues, so will it continue to be exploited and extracted from the surrounding geography.
| EXPLOITATION | |
| WHO? | See "uses" below, for the type of industries which most readily need and use Cadmium. |
| WHAT? | The exploitation of Cadmium, for industrial and chemical purposes. |
| WHERE? | In the United States, practically all Cadmium produced, originates as a by-product of the refining of zinc ores (from Missouri, Montana, Silesia). |
| WHEN? | Discovered in 1817; exploitation began after the industrial revolution |
| HOW? | As most, if not all Cadmium produced in the United States, originates as a by-product of the refining of zinc ores, "Fraction Distillation" and "Electrolysis" are the two most common methods of extraction (to separate the cadmium and the zinc). |
