History of Sodium Acetate

There is no specific year as to which sodium acetate was first discovered, synthesized, and used in various products. However, American Druggist and Pharmaceutical Records show the use and knowledge of sodium acetate as far back as 1898. However, no available records or logs from before this contained references to sodium acetate. It can be inferred from this that around the time of the late 1800's sodium acetate began to become a well-known and commonly used chemical. However, since the production of sodium acetate hand warmers in the 20th century, the common use and recognition of sodium acetate has increased. Even more with the internet and the public sharing of ideas, the classic "hot ice" reaction has lead to a widespread public interest in sodium acetate. This in turn has caused sodium acetate to be a commonly used and recognized chemical in today's world, by chemists, fun-seekers, and those who use it in their every day lives without knowing it.
