The drug Strattera became the first FDA approved treatment that is not a stimulant, under the Controlled Substances Act, in November 2002. It was released from the drug company Eli Lilly. Its original intended use was as an anti-depressant, but in tests it showed no effects as an anti-depressant drug. Since Strattera increases norepinephrine in the brain and since norepinephrine also plays a roll in ADHD, it was tested for treatment of ADD/ADHD and was approved as a suitable treatment.
