Uses & Effects

Strattera is a non-stimulant drug for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and attention deficit disorder (ADHD and ADD). It is the first FDA (US food and drug administration) approved non stimulant drug for ADD.

Strattera's chemical name is Atomoxetine HCl. It is called a SNRI or a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Strattera increases the norepinephrine in prefrontal cortex of your brain. Norepinephrine is a neurotransmitter that is associated with attention and activity levels. Neurotransmitters carry electrical signals between a neuron and a cell.

Strattera is thought to be related to selective inhibition of the pre-synaptic norepinephrine transporter, but its not fully understood how it actually works.
