Religion

The Psilocin compound itself was not used in any religious affairs directly but the mushroom Psilocybe which the psilocin derives was. Psilocybe mushrooms have been found in many religions throughout the world including Buddhism, Mixtec and Mazatec of Mexico, Manna Christianity, and in a few smaller religions. Buddha was given a mushroom to be known as Psilocybe by a peasant who believed it be a delicacy, and in ancient verse the mushroom was linked to the phrase pig's foot. In the Mixtec culture of central Mexico is a polytheistic religion in which the followers worship a god by the name of Piltzintecuhtli, or 7 flower in which was known to be the god for hallucinatory plants, mainly the divine mushroom. The Aztecs also has a closely related god of psychoactive plants, Xochipilli, Prince of Flowers, who was the patron of the "flowery dream" which the Aztecs described the taking of hallucinatory drugs. The Aztecs were also known to take a number of hallucinogen plants, one of which was psilocybian mushrooms which were mainly used in religious ceremonies. Another culture using the Psilocybe mushrooms in their religion is the Mazatecs of Velada Mexico. An Australian anthropologist by the name of Robert Weitlaner witnessed a Mazatec mushroom ceremony. Weitlaner shared to his co-workers of how the natives were using mushrooms as inebriants, and also sent mushrooms to them for research (they were ruined before they could be correctly examined though). The Psilocybe cubensis, was one of the main mushrooms that the Mazatecs used and worshipped as well. In Christianity a small branch, Manna, worship the use of entheogenis substances and validate biblical use of the manna (spiritual feeling) as a mystifying substance of transcendent experiences which can be achieved from the use of the Psilocybe mushroom. In the bible a passage from Exodus is famous for describing the use of the mushroom and it reads, "And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground (1). And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat (2)." ((1)Ex: 16:4, (2)Ex: 16:14)). In a few small Christian cults throughout the world this belief of the manna is worshipped, and practiced in ceremonies as well.

How is Psilocin Used?

Psilocin is usually taken in orally and is most easily obtained from either dried or fresh Psilocybe mushrooms. Psilocin is also taken in as a powder in capsules, which most addicts prefer. Psilocin is sometimes brewed in a tea to add a "zing" to the tea party as shroom enthusiasts would say. From 4-10 milligrams are usually taken at a time, but in most cases cannot be controlled for the active amount of hallucinogens in the Psilocybe mushrooms are different from the condition of the mushroom when the compound was obtained. When Psilocin is taken side affects from small- normal amounts include

- Lightheadedness

- Numbness of the face

- Shivering or sweating

- Nausea

- Anxiety

Psilocin is a dangerous drug and if used the user should not operate heavy machinery or drive a motored while under the influence of this hallucinogen or any other hallucinogen drug. If caught operating a motor vehicle, or any type of machinery while under the influence of Psilocin carries out heavy prison sentences.
