Historical Background/Story of Discovery:
Hydrogen
Peroxide was first discovered by Louis-Jacques Thenard in 1818. He found hydrogen
peroxide by burning barium salts to create barium peroxides. When the
barium peroxides were put into water to dissolve, Thenard found that hydrogen
peroxide was produced(8).
The reaction created hydrogen
peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide was used as a cleaning agent through out the
years. Then, in 1971, the British started to test the use of hydrogen peroxide as
rocket propellent. Hydrogen peroxide was used the V2 rocket and later the Black
Knight plane(3).
The more demand for hydrogen peroxide created a production of hydrogen peroxide
using electrolytic process which makes a more higher strength and higher purity
of hydrogen peroxide(8).
