Fructose, along with glucose, occurs in certain vegetables (all that is above). It is a component, along with glucose, of the disaccharide sucrose, or common table sugar. Phosphate derivatives from fructose and it's important in the metabolism of carbohydrates. It is a common sweetener, and is a major product of photosynthesis (the process of plants transforming the sugar energy into food.) Fructose is used in a large amount of foods, cookies, and other sweets.
Corn syrups are manufactured by treating corn starch with acids or enzymes. Standard corn syrups, used by the food industry as well as the consumer, contain dextrose and other saccharides. High fructose corn syrup is made by treating dextrose with enzymes. The result is a liquid mixture of dextrose and fructose that is used by food manufacturers in soft drinks, canned fruits, jams and other food applications.
Economically fructose could be very important because when mixed with glucose it creates sugar. Sugar has been thought to curse some diseases.
