The Vietnam war was a host to many different forms of fighting. In fact the very war revolutionized America's use of chemical warfare. America followed the motif that, "the first rule of jungle warfare is to remove the jungle". In order to do this America utilized chemical agents and herbicides in order to deforest Vietnam. Although this idea was well thought out militarily, it was not thought out in medical terms. The attempts to remove the Viet-Cong's hiding territory was carried out through the use of the chemical herbicide Agent Orange. Agent Orange is the mixture of two distinct chemicals that would pave the way for the jingoistic military forces of America through the use of 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T. These two chemicals are directly harmful to humans. Furthermore, they also produce a carcinogenic agent, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzodioxin, which is a dioxin, a carcinogenic agent to humans. The direct actions that America vowed to take in the Vietnam War saw to the mass of America's troops coming into direct contact with these two agents and the carcinogenic byproduct. This site endeavors to explore the mass dissemination of Agent Orange in Vietnam and America's exposure to it. Furthermore, I endeavor to pursue the results that Agent Orange has had on our society today.
