Uses
and Importance of Insulin![]()
Insulin is a hormone which is produced in your pancreas. Insulin helps keep your blood sugar in a normal range by moving glucose from your blood into your cells. Insulin is very important because it helps your body turn fats, carbohydrates and starches into energy your body can use.
Insulin is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus ( insulin-dependent diabetes), diabetes mellitus is caused by a deficiency of insulin production. Diabetics who depend on insulin must inject up to several times a day depending on what type on insulin they take. There are seven types of insulin for human use, these range from rapid- acting insulin to long- acting insulin. These insulins differ in their onset (time it takes to start working), peak time (when the insulin is working hardest), and duration (how long the insulin stays in your body). Insulin is very important to diabetics as it allows them to function and live. Without insulin, diabetics would not live very long as their bodies would not be able convert food to energy.
Without insulin, humans and animals would die extremely quickly as they would not process the food they ate into energy. Insulin is vital for survival; it helps produce energy which allows us to perform simple, everyday activities.
