Benzene

      Benzene is an organic chemical compound that is colorless and flammable.  It is a liquid that smells sweet.  It also evaporates into the air very quickly and dissolves slightly in water.  It is a natural constituent of crude oil, but it is usually made up of other compounds that are in petroleum.  Natural sources of benzene include volcanoes and forest fires.  But, it is also highly flammable and is a known carcinogen.  A carcinogen is any substance that promotes cancer.
