ROSENTHAL AND ALECIO TAKE TITLES, CHARGERS FINISH 7TH
Charlotte
February 16, 2008
By: Victor Lerch
Led by sophomore Alex Rosenthal and
junior Miguel Alecio, CA wrestlers returned from the NCISAA
State Wrestling Tournament
at in Charlotte this weekend
with two individual
championship titles – double their showing from last
year. The team as a whole finished in a disappointing 7th
place in the field of 13 independent schools, having hoped
to challenge for a top spot after nearly defeating perennial
champions Forsyth Country Day in a dual match earlier this
season.
Day One of competition saw three
Chargers (the 2 titlists plus junior Carson Bills)
successfully wrestle their way through the first two rounds
of competition and into Saturday morning’s semi-final round.
Five others – seniors Corey Lerch and Max Flescher, juniors
Tyler Hartsfield and Nathaniel Ting, and sophomore Izaak
Earnhardt – shook off first day losses and made it to the
consolation rounds. Though Coach Moore felt that as many as
six team members might qualify for the semi’s, the fact that
CA placed 8 of 13 starters into the second day of
competition held some prospect for redemption from an
otherwise unsatisfying first day performance.
It was not to be. In spite of some
notable individual matches, in the end Charger wrestlers
garnered only two additional 4th places finishes
(from Corey Lerch and Carson Bills) for their efforts.
Here
are the details by weight class...
Please, take a second to congratulate all of our
wrestlers, Middle School and Upper School. Go Chargers!
